Joyce Carol Oates ridiculed for asking if there is anything 'celebratory and joyous' about Isis

The US author Joyce Carol Oates has been accused of naivety for asking her Twitter followers if there is anything “celebratory" about Isis.

The Pulitzer Prize-nominated writer was ridiculed overnight for asking if there was anything "celebratory and joyous" about the philosophy of the terror group responsible for killing thousands and a number of terror attacks across Europe.

Oates, the author of Black Water and The Wheel of Love and Other Stories, also asked if her “query” was naive. Unsurprisingly, the overwhelming response to her question was ‘yes’.

Her tweet comes days after Isis claimed responsibly for the five terror attacks across Paris last week that killed 129 and injured over 400 more people. The group also claimed responsibility for downing a Russian plane after Russia launched an air strike campaign over Raqqa, the group’s defacto capital in Syria.

Isis is known for inflicting incomprehensible brutality on hostages and those still living in areas under the group’s self-declared caliphate.

Oates joked about her cat Cherie “taking over my computer and Twitter account in the night” in an interview with The Independent in January.
