Joy for Rutherglen residents after postcode lottery jackpot

A group of Rutherglen residents are celebrating after their street landed a massive cash prize in the People's Postcode Lottery.

Seven households on St Blane's Drive are sharing a £270,000 prize.

Two lucky households in the G73 2BD area, who wished to remain anonymous, won £60,000 each. Another five houses on the street
each won £30,000.

The residents were told of the news by Lottery ambassador Danyl Johnson.

One winner, Liz Keenan, managed to pocket £30,000 despite leaving the area four years ago.

She told our sister paper the Sunday Mail how her daughter Natasha took over the house so Liz, who has been a fan of the lottery for 16 years, was able to keep playing the prize game.

Natasha said: " “It’s an amazing piece of luck.

"“It’s the family home and I grew up here. After my mum and dad moved out, it was lying empty before I moved back. It’s just as well or they would have missed out. Most of the street is quiet and people are quite private – but my mum and dad aren’t like that.”

Sunday’s draw was promoted on behalf of Unicef, with players having raised more than £8.1 million for the charity and more than £600 million to date for thousands of other projects.

Danyl Johnson said: “Congratulations to Liz and all our other winners in Rutherglen.

“It sounds like a really friendly community and I’m so happy we could bring them this amazing news.”
