Joy for Castle Douglas couple as they are reunited with missing dog

A Castle Douglas couple have praised everyone who helped find their beloved dog which ran off after being spooked by fireworks.

Tess was in Martin and Isobel Prowse’s garden when she bolted on Sunday night.

The noise of fireworks startled the six-year-old collie cross and she ran off into the night just before 7pm.

A friend of the Prowses posted a plea on social media and several people took part in the search in the area around their Abercromby Road home.

And Tess was eventually reunited with her owners on Monday morning after being found by a dog walker near Threave Castle.

Martin said: “We were relieved and we were maybe a bit surprised at how quickly the news spread as we’re not on Facebook.

“It was a tremendous help and we were really grateful to all the people who came out to help. It was perhaps a bit of a surprise but it was really heartwarming.

“I was out walking around town and lots of people were out with their dogs or coming out from time to time to see if they could see her.

“There were sightings in town and also at the Hightae roundabout towards Rhonehouse.

“There were people walking over the golf course and down the path towards Threave Castle.

“I was walking about until about 11.30pm and the neighbour across the road until about midnight.

“A gentleman who was walking his dog found her in the area of Threave Castle at about 11.30 in the morning on Monday.

“She is very wary and she is a nervous dog but friendly and he managed to persuade her to walk with him and he was able to put a lead on her. I think she was more willing to walk with him because he had a dog.

“They managed to come back to the area of Threave Rovers. He phoned my wife from the number on her collar and she went down to fetch her. I’d driven out of town again to see if I could see her but when I got back she was home.

“She was delighted to be home. She greeted my wife and then me when I came back.

“She was very wet because it had been raining a lot. She was subdued and she didn’t really want to go out into the garden or accept treats for a bit but she did eat.”
