Joy as care home residents reunited with loved ones for first time since lockdown

Uddingston care home residents have been reunited with loved ones for the first time since before lockdown

Elderly residents at Renaissance Care’s Uddingston care homes were reunited with family members on Monday, with outdoor meetings allowing loved ones to reconnect in person for the first time since March.

The sun was shining for the first day of emotional visits, giving relatives at Croftbank and Rosepark Care Homes the chance to catch up with their parents, grandparents and relatives in person.

Keeping loved ones connected has been a key focal point for Renaissance Care since the start of the pandemic, purchasing iPads for each of its 15 care homes and maintaining strong communication with relatives throughout.

Margaret Caldwell, assistant manager at Croftbank Care Home in Uddingston, said: “It was great the sun came out so the residents and their relatives could enjoy their time together without getting wet, although I doubt even that would have dampened their spirits. It’s been a fantastic day for all of us.”

Margaret Selfridge, a resident at Croftbank who was visited by her son John, said: “It was really lovely getting to see John. It was particularly great hearing his voice as our other visits for the past while have been through a window. John and I are both looking forward to the next stage of visits.”
