Joy as bridge in Balloch set to reopen after 15 long months

There is due to be a sigh of relief tomorrow (Friday) as Balloch’s Lomond Bridge is to reopen.

After being closed for almost a year and a half, work on the route has been completed this week.

It is expected the first cars will pass over the bridge tomorrow which links Balloch to Gartocharn since last February.

Initially the road was due to close for nine months with motorists at the time predicting “mayhem” .

However, just over a month later, the country went into lockdown due to the spread of coronavirus, meaning roads were left deserted.

A resident contacted the Lennox Herald in February to express his dismay that the bridge is still closed saying: “Most countries could’ve built a whole new bridge by now and have it opened.”

The Lomond Bridge works were originally scheduled to begin in October 2019 and estimated to finish in April last year but were delayed.

The £3.6million project involved a replacement of the deck on Lomond Bridge with wear and tear having left the concrete deck on the A811 in poor condition.
