Joe Swash cries on Dancing on Ice as he skates to dad's funeral song

Former EastEnders actor Joe Swash was in tears on Sunday night as he skated to a very poignant song in the Dancing on Ice semi-final.

Prior to his second skate of the night to Simply Red's Stars, Joe, who also won I'm A Celebrity, revealed that it was a song that had really sad memories for him as it was his mum and dad's favourite song before his dad sadly died when Joe was just 12.

As you can see in the above video taken from ITV, Joe then explained that the song was then played at his dad's funeral, meaning it became a track that was associated with a lot of sadness for his family and was often turned off whenever it came on.

He said his aim was to give his family a happy memory with the song and he certainly did that, earning a score that they'd all be proud of, with the Dancing on Ice judges giving them 38 out of 40.

Joe looked moved as he got his scores and many viewers at home were also touched by his tribute to his family and late dad.

Simply Red frontman Mick Hucknall also had a special message for Joe, wishing him well, before host Phillip Schofield also revealed that the band wanted Joe and his family to be their special guests at a concert on their forthcoming tour.

Joe's son Harry was in the audience and told Phillip and Holly: "Grandad will be looking and not just smiling but crying, crying happy tears."

Joe and pro partner Alex finished the semi-final in third place, on a total score of 76 out of 80. Diversity dancer Perri Kiely was at the top again with a total of 78.5.
