Journalists in Kenya must have qualifications

The Kenyan government and media owners have struck a deal on amendments to a controversial media bill. One change states that a journalist must hold "a diploma or degree in mass communication from a recognised institution of higher learning". Greeting the change, Hannington Gaya, chairman of the Media Owners Association (MOA) chairman, said: "This makes journalism a respected profession as it distinguishes who is a journalist and who is not."
