Journalists given emergency prevention plan for Copa Libertadores final

Journalists picking up their media accreditation for Sunday’s Copa Libertadores final between River Plate and Boca Juniors have been handed an emergency prevention plan along with their press passes for the match at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Accredited media were told to collect their passes on Friday or Saturday because there will be no access to the stadium without a match ticket or proof of working at the event in Sunday’s rearranged showpiece between Argentina’s two biggest clubs.

With their accreditation, journalists were given a wristband which they cannot remove until after Sunday’s match and also a leaflet detailing the procedures to follow in the event of an emergency.

On it, instructions are given for what should be done if “there is excessive smoke”, presumably from flares, if “your clothes catch fire”, if “you find a wounded person”, if “there is imminent danger” or in case the “stadium needs to be evacuated”.

Such a sheet is unprecedented at the Santiago Bernabeu and gives an indication as to the security measures in place for Sunday’s game in Madrid.
