Halifax Courier journalist Gordon Sampson is retiring after almost 50 years of news-gathering. He joined the Brighouse Echo in 1959, moving to the Courier's sports desk in the early 1960s, later becoming deputy sports editor. In 1981, he returned to the Echo and six years later became its editor. In the early 1990s, he was appointed special features editor at the Courier and editor of the Calderdale News.
