Jota 'pushed for' Celtic transfer decision that opened the door for permanent Parkhead deal

Celtic could benefit from a policy change from Portuguese club Benfica, after they secured the services of forward Jota for the 2021/22 campaign.

Celtic have signed Jota on a season long loan deal, and the club have the option to make the move a permanent one.

The 22-year-old has been with the Portuguese outfit since 2007 and spent time on loan last season in Spain with Real Valladolid.

According to a Portuguese news outlet, Benfica have changed their policy in regards to young players at the club and that are not part of the managers plans.

Last campaign Jota was shipped out on loan alongside Florentino Luis and Tomas Tavares with the trio all having a recall clause on the deals and no option to buy.

This season, the report states that Benfica have implemented an option to buy, something that was pushed for by the players.

The report believes that Jota feels as though he will get more game time at Celtic with the clause inserted in his contract as he aims to impress manager Ange Postecoglou.

The fee that Celtic would be required to pay for Jota would be around £6.4million.

Jota has played 34 matches for Benfica's first team in his career, scoring two goals and providing three assists.

During his loan spell in Spain with Real Valladolid, he played 18 matches, scoring two goals during that spell.

A Portuguese youth international, he has 18 Portugal under 21 caps to his name, scoring five goals in the process.

Jota faces competition from James Forrest and Liel Abada for a starting spot in the Celtic starting XI, however, he will be hoping he can hit the ground running after the international break to impress manager Ange Postecoglou.
