Jota on the special 'Celtic culture' as he heaps praise on fan support after Real Madrid loss

Jota has heaped praise on the Celtic support for their backing against Real Madrid.

Parkhead was a real cauldron of noise on Tuesday night as Ange Postecoglou's men kicked off their Champions League campaign. They took the game to the La Liga giants in the first period and with the scores level Callum McGregor struck the post while Liel Abada and Daizen Maeda missed huge chances.

Los Blancos upped the ante in the second period and showed their class with goals from Vinicius JR, Luka Modric and Eden Hazard putting Celtic to the sword. Despite the three goal loss the Hoops faithful created a special atmosphere throughout the match and applauded the players at full-time for their efforts.

Jota admits playing with that buzz behind you is 'something unbelievable' and says they will continue to give everything for the shirt and to keep the fans happy.

He said: “This speaks a lot about what Celtic is, the culture of Celtic and the history that they have.

“We are just grateful to have this support from everyone, and the one thing we can promise them is that we will work hard every day to try to deliver them results.

“It was definitely something unbelievable to play in this stadium with this atmosphere and this crowd in the Champions League.

“So, we just want to make our supporters happy, and we promise that every time we go out onto the pitch we are going to give everything for the shirt.”

Next up for Celtic is Shakhtar Donetsk - and a clash with former Hoops man Marian Shved - who hit a double against RB Leipzig - and Jota reckons they can take plenty of positives from the Real Madrid defeat into matchday two.

He added: “We knew that we had to have personality inside the pitch, we needed to remain humble and just to play our game and that’s what we tried to do.

“We know that we had our chances, we didn’t score, and we know that when these teams have their chances they take them, and that’s it. Next time, we just need to take ours.

“The Champions League level is very high, always, and this will be a learning curve for us. I just can’t wait until the next one to get better and to get better results.

“Of course, we work hard every day to play against these teams, this is our aim.

“So, we are just going to keep on working hard, and try to get better results.”
