Josip Juranovic in Celtic transfer acceleration as fresh spark sees signing talks progress

Celtic have re-opened talks with Croatian international Josip Juranovic.

The Hoops had previously identified the Legia Warsaw defender as one of their top right-back targets.

The Polish side thought they were close to a deal with Celtic but their opening offer was short of their £3 million valuation.

Celtic have now held further talks with Jurnovic’s representatives and are keen to get a deal over the line.

Juranovic, 26, has 10 caps for Croatia, has previously had spells with Dubrava and Hajduk Split. He moved to Poland last year.

A right-back had been a priority for Ange Postecoglou but Anthony Ralston’s recent return to form has helped ease that situation in the short-term.

Celtic have also been working on other targets including Yan Couto, who is a loan option from Manchester City.

Brazilian Couto was a guest of Celtic’s at last week’s Europa League clash with Jablonec.

It has proved a difficult deal to close with Braga and Girona, where he has previously been on loan, are amongst the clubs interested.

Jurnavovic would be more costly but would be a permanent signing.

The door hasn’t been closed on top target George Baldock either but that is a more expensive deal again with Sheffield United reluctant to sell one of their key players as they try to win promotion back to the Premier League.
