Josina Anderson broke the Landon Collins news from a phone call on live TV

ESPN’s NFL Free Agency Countdown offered viewers a live look at the reporting process on Monday, and it was spectacular.

The informal setting consisted of ESPN NFL news-breakers and insiders sitting around a table to discuss the movements in free agency and also break free agency news … all on camera. It was a unique setup, and it really paid off when Josina Anderson stepped away to take a phone call.

It was from Landon Collins, and he had some news for Anderson. He told Anderson on the air that he was signing with the Redskins, and Anderson re-entered the frame with phone in-hand to relay the news to her colleagues and, well, everybody watching on TV.

Sure, it was admittedly strange to see a reporter take a phone call while on live TV, but the moment certainly was compelling. Once Anderson said that Collins was going to Washington, Adam Schefter went on his phone (as he tends to do on TV) to tweet the news.
