Joshua King injury situation explained amid Manchester United deadline day transfer interest

Manchester United are trying to clinch a deadline day transfer for Josh King.

MEN Sport understands there is interest from United in their former striker, who has been with Bournemouth since 2015, though it's in the balance whether a deal will be struck. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer played down the chances of United securing a move for a striker in his Friday morning press conference.

But reports are claiming United are preparing a second bid for the 28-year-old, Solskjaer's fellow countryman, and a move could happen before tonight's 11pm deadline. United want a forward to cover for the injured Marcus Rashford.

King scored the winning goal against his former club for the Cherries back in November, spinning to volley beyond David de Gea to secure a 1-0 win at the Vitality Stadium. But he's been out since December 28th with a hamstring injury, with some United fans concerned about the prospect of signing an injured player.

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe, who confirmed there had been an approach for King and that a "decision" would have to be made, was quoted as telling the Daily Echo on New Year's Day that the forward would be out for six weeks.

"I think they’re going to be out for about five to six weeks," he said on King and defender Jack Stacey.

"They’ve got very similar injuries. Both hamstring injuries, both been given the same grade so a massive, massive blow.

"I think we missed Josh today [against West Ham, when they lost 4-0] with his pace and the power that he brings to the team."
