Joshua Buatsi targeting world title opportunity after Ricards Bolotniks fight

Joshua Buatsi wants to prove he's worthy of a world title shot when he faces Ricards Bolotniks on Saturday night at Matchroom Fight Camp.

The Brit is 14-0 and has yet to be seriously troubled in his young career, but he hasn't faced anyone at the level that would qualify him for a big shot at a major belt.

That will change on Saturday night when he faces Golden Contract winner Bolotniks at Matchroom HQ on Saturday night on the final week of Eddie Hearn's Fight Camp series.

“This is it, this is the fight," Buatsi said at a press conference today. "You’ve been eager to make it happen from early on and when this was offered to my team we said yeah straight away.

"It’s a good fight, the ring outside looks good, I’m looking forward to it - I’ve said it before we can go into there to box, with a strategy, but sometimes you’re going to have to fight, sometimes the tactics will go out the window and it’s man against main.

"We’ll see what happens and how it goes, but I’ll be prepared, I’ve covered all aspects, I’m ready.

“It will be a good gauge to see where I’m at, I think a good performance from my myself with give you the green light to get the belt. Either way I’ll be prepared.”

Bolotniks also harbors ambitions to reach world level, having turned his career around in recent years to earn some massive opportunities.

By June 2018, Boltniks held a record of 11-5-1, but since then he has managed to put together an impressive win streak that has taken him to 18-5-1.

He stunned the unbeaten Steven Ward with a first round TKO in their first round Golden Contract match-up, and ended up winning the competition as well as the European title.

And now he is looking to become international champion, with the world title a future ambition.

“I wanted this fight straight after the Golden Contract, and now I’m here and I’m so happy," he said.

"I’m ready for Saturday, and I am only here for the victory.

“Buatsi is a big star here and a good boxer. He’s strong and tough, and I want a street fight with him.

"In Latvia I was always fighting on the street, boxing is more professional, but I want a war and I’m sure me and Buatsi will have a massive fight.

“I’m focused on Saturday, but after this of course I want the World Title. I have the perfect team around me, and this is the right time.”

This weekend's card will also feature the return of Kash Farooq, who faces Luis Gerardo Castillo, as well as runouts for Zelfa Barrett and Joe Cordina.

It will be rounded out by a global welterweight title fight between 20-0 Michael McKinson and Polish fighter Przemyslaw Runowski as well as a fifth pro fight for Hopey Price.
