Josh Warrington vs Kid Galahad: World featherweight champion motivated by rival's lack of remorse since doping ban

Josh Warrington will make his second defence of his IBF featherweight title against mandatory challenger Kid Galahad on June 15.

The fight will take place at the First Direct Arena in Leeds, six months after Warrington beat Carl Frampton to retain his title.

It is a third British opponent in a row for the champion, which started when he captured the belt from Lee Selby. And Warrington admits he has grown annoyed at Galahad’s lack of remorse following a doping ban in 2015.

Warrington said: “The way he behaves and conducts himself, he shows no remorse for his ban!

“This sport doesn’t need characters like Bari!”

Galahad maintains his innocence after testing positive for an anabolic steroid in 2015, insisting his brother spiked his protein drink following a dispute.

Warrington concedes his form makes him the favourite after two successive upset wins, but that it will not change his mentality.

“I’ve proven in my last two fights that I’m a world champion for a reason,” said the Leeds fighter.

“All of a sudden people are saying I am capable of beating every featherweight in the world and with that comes expectation.

“I will go into this fight as the bookies’ favourite, but I will be 100 per cent focused and looking to do a job.”
