Josh Warrington on liquid diet after shocking broken jaw injury in Kiko Martinez win

Boxer Josh Warrington has shared the extent of his jaw injury following his IBF featherweight title victory over Kiko Martinez on Saturday night.

The Leeds fighter produced a stoppage two minutes and 12 seconds into the seventh round to claim the belt for the second time in his career. Both men suffered horrific-looking cuts during the bout, with Warrington later having surgery on his broken jaw.

He had shared a photo from his hospital bed post-operation thanking the medical team for their efforts. Warrington has now released a video on Instagram, updating his fans on his recovery and showing them his facial injury.

In it, he revealed he was on a liquid diet for a number of weeks while his jaw heals. Seemingly in good spirits, he said: “So because of the old jaw - it’s looking quite a size now - I’ve gone on a liquid diet this week and next. No fry-ups on a Monday like normal.

“Instead, we’ve porridge in a cup, all liquid and watered down. The things that you have to do - the price you pay - for being champion.”

Martinez was also badly hurt in the fight, and shared a photo that showed inflamed and bruised eyes as well as other facial cuts. “Thank God my family will take care of me as they always do,” he said.

Warrington’s win over Martinez at the First Direct Arena was his second over the 36-year-old Spaniard, having claimed a narrow points victory in 2017. Warrington takes his record to 30-1-1, winning a bout for the first time since October 2019.
