Josh Taylor stone tribute found in woods near undisputed champ's home town

A stone inscription celebrating East Lothian fighter Josh Taylor’s undisputed boxing world title victory has been discovered in woods near the Tartan Tornado’s home town.

Carrie Williamson came across the bizarre inscription with kids Finlay and Bonnie Loftus while out walking the family dog in the grounds of Prestongrange Museum - just outside Taylor’s Prestonpans home.

The 30-year-old floored Jose Ramirez twice in front of a buzzing Las Vegas crowd to become Scotland’s first undisputed world champion since 1971 on Saturday evening.

The fighter - trained in Edinburgh's Lochend Boxing Gym - added the WBC and WBO light-welterweight titles to his WBA, IBF, and Ring magazine championships and became the first Scot since the great Ken Buchanan to rule as undisputed champ.

That prompted an offbeat tribute to his achievement by one local, who decorated a stone with a depiction of the fighter in his corner.

Wearing blue shorts, Taylor is surrounded by the phrase "Josh Taylor world champ".

Carrie was left mystified after Bonnie and Finlay picked it up off the ground, but snapped a photo to send to the champ.

“It was just quite a bizarre thing to find," she said.

“We had been out walking in the woods near Prestongrange Museum and one of my kids spotted it on the ground.

“We just took a quick photo of it and left it where it was, but it was quite odd."

Carrie laughed: “I have sent it to Josh on social media, but he hasn’t responded just yet."

Speaking after the fight, Taylor was determined his next bout should be at either Edinburgh Castle or Easter Road - home of his beloved Hibernian.

He said: "I’d love to go back home and take a big fight back to Scotland. Especially now.

“Now is the time to get that fight at Edinburgh Castle or Easter Road.

“I know Easter Road are going to be up for having me there and they’ve said it a few times so I’d love to have it at Easter Road.

"But I’d love to fight at Edinburgh Castle. I think that would just be iconic with the castle lit in the background.”
