Josh Taylor in 'Hibs it' quip as undisputed champion reacts to dream Hampden fight offer

Josh Taylor insists he wouldn't 'Hibs it' at Hampden if he ever secures a dream fight at the national stadium.

The Prestonpans boxer is on top of the world after his stunning victory over Jose Ramirez confirmed him as undisputed world light-welterweight champion.

The sky's the limit for Taylor, who has been open about his ambition to fight at Easter Road or Edinburgh Castle.

But SFA chief Ian Maxwell this week offered up Hampden as a venue for his next fight on home turf.

Taylor watched his beloved Hibs fail three times in Mount Florida this season, including last weekend's painful Scottish Cup Final defeat to St Johnstone.

But insists there's no chance he'd suffer that same fate.

He quipped: “Yeah, they Hibsed it, didn’t they?! But it is what it is, you win some, you lose some. Unless you’re Josh Taylor, when you win them all!

“I’d love to fight there as well, although that might just be a little bit too big. I know I pull in a good crowd but could I sell 75,000 tickets? I don’t know. That would be some feat, an achievement in itself. It’s probably asking too much but never say never.

“It would be really cool to fight there, though.

“Mike Tyson only drew 20,000 so there you go but it could happen. I’d certainly like to hope so because – if that was announced – it would be amazing. Why not? I have some great support.

“I think I’ve got to take care of a mandatory against Jack Caterall next but obviously it’s not written in stone. We’ll wait and see what happens.

“I’d love to have a fight at Easter Road or Edinburgh Castle, in my home city.

“I haven’t fought at home since Miguel Vazquez and that was at Ingliston in 2017 so it was a long time ago.

“I’d like to do that so the kids can come and watch or for those who afford to go through to Glasgow and spend a lot of money on hotels, trains and buses or whatever.

“When they get through there they’ve got to spend a lot of money before they even buy themselves a pint. I’d like to repay my home friends and family.”
