Josh Taylor Hydro undercard chance is biggest of Coatbridge boxer's life

Coatbridge boxer Mark McKeown is preparing for the biggest fight of his life as he performs on the undercard of the massive Josh Taylor v Jack Catterall fight at the Hydro on Saturday.

Undisputed junior welterweight Taylor is putting his title on the line, having become the first British and Scottish fighter to be undisputed world champion in his division in the four-belt era.

The event will be staged in front of 13,000 fans at the Glasgow arena and screened on Sky Sports, presenting an amazing opportunity for the 27-year-old electrician.

‘Sparky Boy’ said: “It’s brilliant, to be on a card like that, with the amount of fighters.

“A Glasgow show with Josh Taylor fighting for an undisputed title is amazing, the first time boxing on Sky Sports as well.

“It’s in front of 13,000 people as well, so that will be the biggest crowd I’ve boxed in front of.

McKeown says he's ready and waiting to take his chance (Jennifer Charlton)

“I honestly can’t wait, preparation has been great. I’m feeling the fittest I’ve ever been, feeling the strongest I’ve ever been, and I’m ready to put on a show.

“This can open doors for you. All it takes is for somebody to take notice of you, and what your style in that situation shows as well.

“I’ve worked hard for this though, it’s a massive opportunity and I’m going to grab it with both hands.

“I’ll just do what we do, there’s no pressure, and it’s times like this where it will all pay off.”

McKeown added: “It’s a massive chance. I’m prepared for it, ready for it, fit for it, and I’m just waiting on the clock ticking round.

“All the hard work’s done now, it’s just keeping sharp now and putting on a show on the 26th.”
