Josh Taylor Edinburgh fight set for 2022 as promoter sets out blockbuster plans

Boxing champ Josh Taylor’s dreams of a fight at Edinburgh Castle or Easter Road could become reality next year, according to a top promoter.

Top Rank’s Bob Arum is desperate to see the undisputed light-welterweight champion take on stablemate Terence Crawford for the gold and has picked out the Capital as the perfect venue to discover whether the Tartan Tornado can retain his crown.

The 30-year-old said he was desperate to host a boxing extravaganza in the city, either at the iconic Castle outdoor arena or the home of his beloved Hibernian.

Taylor conquered Jose Ramirez to add the the WBC and WBO light-welterweight titles to his WBA, IBF, and Ring magazine championships in May - becoming the first Scot since the great Ken Buchanan to rule as undisputed champ.

He is due to take on undefeated Englishman Jack Catterall in November in his first title defence.

Prestonpans-born Taylor received a hero's welcome in East Lothian when he returned from Las Vegas, with fans lining the streets to welcome him home on an open-top bus tour.

But looking ahead to 2022, Arum is intent on Taylor fighting in front of a home crowd to challenge for Crawford's Welterweight belt.

He told Sky Sports: “Josh is a major talent. He will be fighting Jack Catterall in November.

“Then, we hope, early next year we will be able to do a fight that will blow the lid off of everything in the UK.

“That would be Taylor challenging Crawford for the welterweight title.

“It would be primetime in the UK. We’d love to do it there in the spring with 60,000 people in Scotland.

“My grandson says Edinburgh is a fantastic city!”
