Josh Taylor has announced his shock retirement from boxing.
The 34-year-old Scottish hero, known as the Tartan Tornado, confirmed the news on his social media this afternoon, saying he had taken the decision on the advice of doctors.
A recurring issue with his eye meant that, had he carried on competing, he would risk losing his eyesite. This forced him to take what he admits is a difficult decision.
Taylor thanked fans and his family in a lengthy statement, along with coaches and other key figures in boxing who have helped him have a successful career.
