Josh Rosen technically not on market but teams doing homework to prepare for trade

The Arizona Cardinals are expected by many to make Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray the first pick in the NFL draft next month. That will make quarterback Josh Rosen available for a trade.

However, according to SI.com’s Albert Breer, the Cardinals have not actually let any team know whether or not they will be trading Rosen. Nonetheless, because many teams expect it, they are doing their homework, reaching out to people who have coached him in the past. It is almost like predraft research on a second-year player.

Breer writes:

Teams are still in the dark on the availability of Cardinals QB Josh Rosen. But I’m told that’s not stopping them from getting their ducks in a row, with guys who’ve worked with Rosen over the last few years fielding phone calls and having discussions with intrigued teams gathering background. If you want to see the real-life application of the perception that Kyler Murray is Arizona-bound, there you have it.

At this point, if the Cardinals don’t draft Murray, it will be a huge surprise. If teams around the league are expecting it, media insiders are expecting it and fans are, only to see them go in a different direction and stay with Rosen, everyone might have to question predraft reports forever.
