While it was obvious why he did so, former Tennessee Titans wide receiver Josh Reynolds confirmed why he requested a release from the team.
Reynolds, who saw sparse playing time in Tennessee after falling in the wide receiver pecking order behind Chester Rogers, Marcus Johnson and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, requested his release earlier in the week.
The Titans obliged on Tuesday, sending him to waivers, and a few days later, Reynolds was claimed by the Detroit Lions, a team in desperate need of help at the position that can give him what he wants: playing time.
“It’s what I came for,” Reynolds said. “I’ve been preparing my whole career for it, preparing like I was a starter regardless of whether I wasn’t or not, and hoping it’s time to have it pay off. That’s what I’m excited for.”
Reynolds also said, “I didn’t leave to go to a winning team, otherwise I would have stayed in Tennessee.”
As far as his time in Tennessee is concerned, Reynolds echoed what Titans head coach Mike Vrabel said: it just didn’t work out.
“God works in mysterious ways,” Reynolds said. “Ended up going to Tennessee (in free agency). Didn’t work out there and I’m back where I’m supposed to be.”
Reynolds will reunite with his former Los Angeles Rams teammate, Jared Goff, and will join former Titans wide receiver, Kalif Raymond, who is fourth on the team in receptions and third in receiving yards.
