Josh Oliver could make debut vs. Bengals if he avoids setbacks in practice

Jacksonville Jaguars fans may get their first chance to see a player they’ve been anxiously waiting for Week 7 in rookie tight end Josh Oliver. Per coach Doug Marrone, he has a “great” shot to play this Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals — that is if he can make it through practice without any setbacks.

Oliver’s debut is one fans have long desired not just because he’s the only rookie they have yet to see on the field, but also because the offense could simply use him right now. The unit lost veteran James O’Shaughnessy Week 5 to an ACL tear and Geoff Swaim is currently in the concussion protocol after taking a brutal hit from New Orleans Saints linebacker Demario Davis Sunday. That leaves them with just Ben Koyack and Seth DeValve heading into Week 7’s game if Oliver can’t return.

Oliver was one of the Jags’ third-round selection of April’s draft (No.69 overall). He built up a lot of hype in the summer after standing out in minicamp and organized team activities. A lot of that success came along side rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew II, so hopefully he can get right back to producing with the rookie right away if he can return.
