Washington Redskins veteran cornerback Josh Norman has never been one to muzzle his thoughts. If he has a problem with someone, he’ll tell them. If he thinks things should happen a certain way, he’ll make it known.
So when Norman says that he thinks the Redskins defense has the potential to be something special this season, know that he means it. He has played day in and day out with this young squad, and throughout the summer and training camp, he has seen just how dynamic they can be.
According to the Washington Post, Norman is notifying the NFL that they’re not messing around in the nation’s capital this season, saying its the best defense that he’s seen in Washington.
“We’ll get to the point where it could be all-time,” said Norman.
All-time is a stretch, but from what we’ve seen so far, nothing alludes to the fact that Norman is wrong, though he might be speaking hyperbolically. The defensive line is stout, with Ryan Kerrigan and Montez Sweat rushing the edges outside of the ‘Bama Boys — Jonathan Allen and Daron Payne. The secondary has also improved this offseason when the Redskins signed All-Pro safety Landon Collins to bolster an already capable group of ball hawks.
“It’s just because we got guys in here that know how to play the game,” Norman said. “We got guys who are not so…boisterous. You know what I’m saying? They let guys do their thing.”
Entering his eighth season in the league, Norman has seen his fair share of defenses, both good and bad. He believes this defense will be great. As with everything else that comes out of his mouth, it might be a bit extreme, but chances are that No. 24 believes it.
