Washington Redskins cornerback Josh Norman was cut from the team on Friday morning, freeing up $12.5 million in salary-cap space and giving the veteran an opportunity to find a fresh start somewhere in the NFL.
While the prospect of paying a 32-year-old cornerback upwards of $15 million per year doesn’t sound enticing, that doesn’t mean that Norman will be left out in the cold this offseason. Despite what Redskins fans may tell you, Norman has a few more miles left on his tires, he could be a valuable addition to any contending team, especially if he is willing to change positions in the near future.
According to Julie Donaldson, at NBC Sports Washington, Norman says he has already been in touch with a number of teams via his agent, and he is looking forward to the next phase of his career.
For whatever team decides to sign Norman, if they wish to milk every last ounce of talent out of the former premier defender, it wouldn’t come as a shock to see him shift to the free safety position. That move is one that many cornerbacks have made in their latter years, as it presents them more of an opportunity to ball-hawk in the secondary, and less of a chance to get burned by younger and faster receivers out on the numbers.
Norman’s career may be over in Washington, but it doesn’t appear to be completely done just yet.
