Josh Navidi fitness update issued as Wales and Cardiff Blues star misses Welsh derby with Ospreys

Josh Navidi sit outs Cardiff Blues’ derby against the Ospreys on New Year's Day as he continues to consult with a neurological expert over his long-term head injury.

The outstanding flanker hasn’t featured since a concussion during an internal training game with the Blues in September.

His region have now put him on their short-term injury list, but he's not ready to feature yet, with the Blues saying the outlook is that the Wales international will return in a matter of weeks, “dependent on his progression to full training”.

“Josh Navidi is receiving regular consultation from a neurological expert and is being monitored closely by our medical team,” ran an update issued in conjunction with the Blues team announcement to face the Ospreys.

“The prognosis is that he will return to play in a matter of weeks, dependent on his progression to full training.”

Owen Lane is off limits for the medium or long term because of a foot injury, while Ellis Jenkins’ much-anticipated return after more than two years out with a major knee injury has been delayed by a period of self-isolation.

A shoulder injury has seen Cory Hill sidelined for the Ospreys game at the Cardiff City Stadium, though the Blues don’t expect him to be out for long.
