Josh Murphy ready to 'spark' his Cardiff City career as Neil Harris gives key Lee Tomlin and Robert Glatzel updates ahead of Bristol City derby

Neil Harris hopes Josh Murphy can ignite his Cardiff City career during the Bluebirds' promotion run-in.

The winger has not featured in any of Cardiff's post-lockdown fixtures so far after sustaining a calf injury during the behind-closed-doors match with Swansea City last month.

However, Harris has revealed the former Norwich City man is available for this weekend's crunch play-off clash with Severnside rivals Bristol City at Ashton Gate.

It comes as a significant boost for the Bluebirds who saw Albert Adomah return to parent club Nottingham Forest this week after the 0-0 draw with Charlton.

And Harris says he expects Murphy to "come alive" for the Bluebirds in the remaining weeks of the 2019/20 campaign.

"Josh has done really well. We had a training group late on Tuesday after the game and he was part of that," said the Cardiff boss.

"That was really good training for the lads. It’s important that the players get what they need out of their weekly training schedule. He’s available for the weekend.

"Albert has done great for us, but in Albert’s time in, we’ve had no Mendy [Nathaniel Mendez-Laing] for the first part, and then Mendy’s been back and we’ve had no Josh.

"Josh Murphy at some stage is going to really spark his Cardiff career.

"He’s done well for me in spells, and he’s done well at the club in spells, but this could be the period now, with no fan pressure or expectations on his shoulders, where Murph comes alive for us.

"We’ll have to see, and I can’t put too much pressure on his shoulders, but he could be a big player for us during the run-in."

Having claimed seven of the nine points on offer since the season restarted in June, Cardiff go into this weekend's meeting with Lee Johnson's side in sixth place.

They are sweating on the availability of striker Robert Glatzel who suffered a nasty head collision with Charlton's Sam Field on Tuesday night.

But former Bristol City man Lee Tomlin will be available to face his old employers, although Harris admits he's unsure whether or not the No. 10 will be able to start the derby contest.

On Glatzel, Harris said: "He’s unlikely for Saturday. Protocol hasn’t ruled him out yet.

"We’re on the 24-hour time monitoring process at the moment. We’re in a little bit of a grey area. I’ll know more tomorrow. But he’s not been on the training pitch today.

"He was in this morning, he’s on the bike, he’s around the lads. I spoke to him myself and had a chat with him. He feels fine and there’s no issues. It’s just protocol. I’ll have a clearer picture tomorrow whether he’s available for selection or not."

And when asked if Tomlin was ready to start for the Bluebirds, the Cardiff boss said: "I don’t think he’s far off.

"It’s risk and reward with Tommo at times, that’s the nature of coming back from an injury. There was a long time of him doing nothing.

"I’ve not had to risk him so far, and it’s been a lovely position to be in. I’ll see what Saturday brings with the team selection, and what Tuesday brings, but while we’re going well, we really don’t need to risk players and I’ve been able to rotate players as well.

"Tommo’s impact has been immense coming off the bench and there is some stage where I would like to start him in games.

"We have three things to consider. Is he ready to start the games? How long will he last? And can I trust myself to take him off in a game if there’s a risk of injury, and can I trust Tommo wanting to come off.

"But he’s getting a lot closer to being ready to start."

Kick-off at Ashton Gate on Saturday is at 3pm.
