Rangers starlet Josh McPake is set to sign a new two-year deal at Ibrox.
The teenager, poised to join English League One side Morecambe on a season-long loan, is on a contract until next summer at the Light Blues.
But Steven Gerrard is keen to tie the 19-year-old down on a longer term deal and is close to penning an extension that would keep him with the champions until 2024.
Scottish Premiership pair Motherwell and Livingston both wanted the youngster on loan next season but The Shrimps look to have fended them off along with Doncaster, Oldham and Tranmere.
Former Steelmen boss Stephen Robinson has won the race and McPake will become the fifth signing since taking over from Derek Adams.
Scotland Under-21 international McPake spent the second half of last season on loan at Harrogate in League Two and helped them win the FA Trophy in the delayed 2020 final, beating Concord Rangers 1-0 in May.

He made 23 appearances, scoring four times as the Sulphurites finished 17th in Sky Bet League Two, their first ever season in the EFL.
McPake has also spent time on loan at Dundee and Morton having come through Rangers' academy.
He made his first team debut for Rangers in the summer of 2019 as a substitute for Greg Docherty in the Europa League qualifier against Gibraltar minnows St Joseph’s at Ibrox.
