Josh Maja's Fulham transfer could bank Sunderland £1million

The coffers at the Stadium of Light could be in line for a £1million boost after Josh Maja's deadline day move to Premier League outfit Fulham.

The Cottagers finalised a loan deal with and option to buy - bringing Maja back to Craven Cottage where he started his career.

The 22-year-old Nigerian international has joined from Bordeaux on a temporary basis until the end of the season, with the option to make the move a permanent one for £9m.

The decision to sell Maja to the French side in the January window of 2019 for £1.5million was criticised at the time.

However, one of the advantages of doing so and not waiting until the summer where they'd have received a paltry compensation fee, is that Sunderland's board were able to negotiate other clauses into the deal.

And one of those clauses is believed to be a ten per cent sell-on fee, meaning the Black Cats would be due ten per cent of whatever fee Bordeaux receive if the move is made permanent during the summer.

The former Sunderland striker had been linked with a move to Sheffield United early on in the window after scoring nine times in 20 appearances for the Ligue 1 side.
