Watford striker Josh King has called Manchester United's rejected bid as the lowest point of his career after Bournemouth turned down their efforts.
The Reds saw their £20m bid rejected in 2020 when the Norwegian was at the Cherries as United looked to add attacking reinforcements prior to the end of the January transfer window with Marcus Rashford out at the time.
As that season was halted by the coronavirus pandemic, Bournemouth's eventual fate was sealed as they were relegated alongside Norwich City and Watford, missing on safety by just a point.
The relegation spelt the end of Howe's reign who departed the Vitality Stadium that summer.
King began his professional career with United spending four years but failing to register a league appearance as he went out on multiple loans before leaving permanently for Blackburn Rovers.
The Norwegian was a part of the Bournemouth side that rose into the Premier League during his six years on the coast before a failed season with Everton led him to Vicarage Road.
King was forced to stay with the relegation-threatened side due to his importance in their battle to beat the drop but they couldn't manage to salvage their Premier League status and slipped into the Championship.
He almost labelled his dismal spell at Goodison Park as his lowest point but changed his mind to last January.
“The lowest moment of my career was when Bournemouth said no to the bid from United," he told Ben Foster for his Cycling GK YouTube Channel.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was made to rue his decision not to pursue the 29-year-old harder a year ago as he fired Watford into the lead last Saturday in what proved to be his last game as Reds manager.
