Josh Kerr out to dazzle 1500m rivals with golden shades and Braveheart spirit

Josh Kerr, the man with the golden shades, has vowed to dazzle his 1500m rivals then hit them with the spirit of Braveheart.

The US-based Scot powered into today’s 1500 metres final wearing £250 gold Oakley sunglasses.

He won his semi-final beating Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Timothy Cheruiyot - the only men to finish ahead of him in last year’s Olympic final.

He then warned: “I am Scottish. I never have any fear.

“I grew up racing against the English and the Welsh and the Irish and it was very much the same story with people bigging the English athletes up.

“I’ve been running since I was nine years old and I’ve learned a lot of lessons. This final is going to be an accumulation of 15 years really hard work.”

Asked whether the colour of his sunglasses sent a message to his rivals, Kerr laughed: “I've gone two for two [wins]. You can't change it now, can you?

“I enjoy racing in them. I'm able to look around and no one knows where I'm looking.”

Kerr is joined in the final by compatriot Jake Wightman and pledged to “put on a show for everyone” back home.

“I'll give it every single thing I've got," he added. "You’re going to watch me play hopefully the best game of chess of my life. And hopefully I can come away with something better than I've ever done.”
