Josh Jacobs tops Draft Wire’s final RB rankings

The Indianapolis Colts don’t have a need to add to the backfield and while they’ve shown extreme confidence in the unit, they have still been a team actively looking to bring in a new face.

Despite both general manager Chris Ballard and head coach Frank Reich supporting Marlon Mack as the starting running back, there is a chance the Colts add to the room during the 2019 NFL Draft.

Draft Wire published their final rankings for the running back position. Here’s a look at the top 10:

  1. Josh Jacobs, Alabama
  2. David Montgomery, Iowa State
  3. Damien Harris, Alabama
  4. Miles Sanders, Penn State
  5. Darrell Henderson, Memphis
  6. Benny Snell Jr., Kentucky
  7. Devin Singletary, FAU
  8. Justice Hill, Oklahoma State
  9. Rodney Anderson, Oklahoma
  10. Trayveon Williams, Texas A&M

The Colts have shown particular interest in Jacobs and Sanders. Both prospects have visited Indy for a pre-draft meeting with the Colts. Whether that will turn into a selection remains to be seen.

The Colts could use a running back that works well in short-yardage and goal-line work between the tackles. This could help take some of the wear and tear off of the aforementioned Mack.

While Indy has shown a lot of confidence in the backfield, it wouldn’t be a surprise at all if one of their selections is used at the position later in the draft.
