Josh Ginnelly drops cryptic Hearts comeback hint that has fans speculating about permanent transfer

Josh Ginnelly has dropped a cryptic hint about his potential Hearts comeback.

The winger won’t play for the Championship leaders again this season after undergoing surgery on a hamstring injury.

Ginnelly pulled up early during Hearts’ 4-0 win over Raith Rovers last month.

Despite hopes that he’d only be out for a couple of weeks, scans revealed a more serious problem that required the on-loan Preston North End man to go under the knife.

That ruled him out for the remainder of the campaign and Robbie Neilson moved swiftly to bring in Gervane Kastaneer as a replacement.

Ginnelly’s contract at Deepdale is up this summer, and talks had already begun about him making a permanent move to Tynecastle on a free this summer.

The operation put those on hold, but Neilson admitted they could resume once it was clear that Ginnelly was back on the road to recovery.

And a tweet from the wide man today hinted that he may very well be playing his trade in Gorgie again next season once fully fit, cryptically captioning a picture of him in action for the Jambos with “The comeback’s always bigger #JG30”.

Despite being unable to feature for Hearts, the 23-year-old is staying in Edinburgh to do his rehab, with Neilson keen to keep his infectious personality in and around the squad as they look to clinch the Championship title.

"He's staying here with the guys and with us,” said Neilson previously. “We wanted to keep him here because he's a great character to have about. he;s got great enthusiasm, he's enjoying himself here and he's still got a lot to add to the group."
