Josh Gad 'lands significant role' in Ocean's 11 prequel

Josh Gad is joining Ocean's 11 prequel

Josh Gad has reportedly been cast in Margot Robbie's upcoming Ocean's 11 prequel.

The 45-year-old actor - who is best known for his roles in the likes of Frozen, as well as his originating the role of Elder Cunningham in The Book of Mormon on Broadway - has signed up to join an all-star ensemble cast for Robbie and her director and co-star Bradley Cooper's blockbuster heist movie.

As reported by Variety, sources have revealed Gad has landed a "significant role" in the movie.

The news comes as he's already set to appear in the Space Balls: The New One prequel, plus animated sequels to Angry Birds and Frozen.

Gad has also been cast alongside Ariana Grande in a big screen adaptation of Oh, The Places You Will Go, while he's re-signed his overall TV deal with 20th Century Television.

Details about the Ocean's 11 prequel are being kept closely under wraps, but earlier this year Robbie did offer a hint of what's to come.

Speaking at the studio's CinemaCon presentation, she said: "Before Danny Ocean ever stepped foot in Vegas, two masterminds taught him everything he knows — his parents.

"You’ll see them in their prime, and in our new movie, pulling off an epic heist at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix.”

Cooper has written the screenplay and will helm the project, which is due to be released in June, 2027.

Lee Isaac Chung was previously attached to direct, but left the movie due to "creative differences" in March.

A Warner Bros. spokesperson said: "This is an amicable split due to creative differences."

In a joint statement, Warner Bros. and LuckyChap added: "Lee Isaac is a singular filmmaking talent whose vision and partnership have been invaluable to Warner Bros. and LuckyChap throughout this journey.

"Our experience with him has only deepened our enthusiasm to collaborate on future projects together."

Robbie and Cooper are set to feature in the lead roles.

George Clooney, who starred as Danny Ocean in the original trilogy, previously explained that he was looking forward to watching the Ocean's prequel "as a fan" but stressed that he has no creative involvement in the flick.

He told Entertainment Tonight: "They're gonna play my parents.

"They're all very gifted and talented, and they'll all figure it out. I get to go and watch as a fan."
