Josh Doig has handed Hibs a massive Premier Sports Cup semi-final boost by committing his long term future to the Easter Road club.
The teenage full back and rising Scotland Under-21 star has penned a new deal that will keep him in Leith until at least the summer of 2026.
Doig burst onto the scene last season and was named the Scottish Football Writers' Association Young Player of the Year.
The 19-year-old's form also saw him linked with a string of top clubs in the English Premier League and abroad.
But manager Jack Ross is delighted Doig has signed a new contract and it comes just 24 hours before his side face Rangers at Hampden in a huge last four League Cup clash.
He is the fifth player to sign a new deal this week after Jake Doyle-Hayes, Paul Hanlon, Lewis Stevenson and Christian Doidge all put pen to paper.
After becoming the latest Doig, speaking to the club’s website, said: “I’m absolutely delighted. I absolutely love this club and it was a no brainer to sign.
“Now getting this done puts a real plan in place for me. I love working with everyone here, I’m so happy here and wouldn’t change it for the world.”
Gaffer Ross added: “We’re delighted that Josh has signed a new deal with us. There was a lot of speculation regarding his future in the summer, but he showed a real maturity to deal with a difficult situation.
“We believe he’s one of the top young players in this country and we want to keep him with us to continue his development.”
