Josh Doig overcomes 'horrible' Hibs transfer saga as Jack Ross delivers verdict on star's return

Jack Ross has lauded Josh Doig's attitude after the in-demand youngster made his return to the Hibs starting side.

The Easter Road boss commended the 19-year-old for putting a "horrible period of uncertainty" aside to help his team smash Ross County in the Premiership on Sunday.

Doig has been the subject of intense transfer speculation with Premier League duo Watford and Burnley circling and that led his manager to keep him out of the spotlight in recent weeks.

But with no transfer agreed, Ross had no qualms restoring the teenager to his line-up - although he knew it was up to the player to prove his head was back in the game.

Ross said: “It was easy for me to say pre-match I’d no problem bringing him back, but we knew he’d be judged on the pitch.

“I think everyone saw how focused he was, how clear-headed he is despite everything that’s been going on in the last week.

“His attitude was quite clear: ‘I’m a Hibs player, that’s me’.

“Now, everything can change again really quickly, but what we did was take out a horrible period of uncertainty for him and he showed he has the maturity to cope with the situation.

“I’m also delighted the fans got to see him, because it’s the first time he’s played in front of a crowd here.”
