Josh Doig on for award double after Hibs youngster is nominated for SPFA Young Player of the Year award

Josh Doig could be on for an award double after being nominated for the Scottish Professional Footballers Association Young Player of the Year award.

The Hibs youngster has already scooped the Football Writers’ gong and is again amongst the most impressive young players in the country this season after the SPFA released their shortlist.

Competition will be tough though. Celtic midfielder David Turnbull is also in the running alongside Rangers right back Nathan Patterson and St Johnstone's Northern Irish midfielder Ali McCann.

Doig and McCann go head to head in the Scottish Cup final on 22 May when the Hibees take on St Johnstone at Hampden.

Victory at the national stadium would see Doig add a winners medal to the award he;s already won, and adding the SPFA prize would make it a season to remember.

The 18-year-old signed a new long term contract earlier this season that will keep him at Easter Road until the summer of 2025.

However, there is likely to be lots of interest in the former Hearts youngster this summer with the likes of Manchester City, Leicester City and Leeds United all being credited with an interest in the defender over the last few months.

It is likely to take serious money to tempt Hibs into selling though.
