Josh Doig Hibs transfer latest as Watford reportedly open talks over £4million move

Watford are reportedly in talks with Hibs over a potential move for Josh Doig.

The teenage defender has enjoyed a sensational breakthrough season at Easter Road, scooping the Football Writers’ Association and PFA Young Player of the Year awards.

And he could add a Scottish Cup winners medal to his haul if Jack Ross’ team overcome St Johnstone in Saturday’s final at Hampden.

But there is a chance that could be the last game of his short Hibs career if the money is right.

The Hornets are recruiting gort their return to the English Premier League after winning automatic promotion from the Championship behind Norwich City.

They see Doig as a sound long term investment and the Watford Observer reports the club are in talks with Hibs over a move for Doig.

It’s understood a fee of £4million is being discussed although any asking price and how a deal might be structured hasn’t yet been agreed.

Former Newcastle player Achraf Lazaar arrived midway through last season to provide cover on that area of the pitch but has since been released and Watford are looking to upgrade.

Doig isn’t the only Scottish Premiership player interesting them however. Aberdeen’s Lewis Ferguson handed in a transfer request after two bids were reportedly rejected for the Aberdeen midfielder.

Doug recently signed a new long term contract in Leith but with Ron Gordon admitting the club’s financial position remains difficult and that one or two stars may be sold this summer, a healthy transfer fee for the 18-year-old could be too tempting to turn down.
