Josh Doctson isn’t feeling extra pressure this year with Redskins

Jay Gruden excepts big things from wideout Josh Doctson this year — but the wideout himself isn’t stressing too much.

Which to Redskins fans has to sound a bit odd — the Redskins turned down Doctson’s fifth-year option because of his performance so far.

But for Doctson, he’s not feeling the pressure and looped in his ability to mentor younger teammates at the same time.

“There’s been, what, three or four first rounds since me? So that pressure is on them more so than I am, I can just play ball now,” Doctson said, according to the team’s website. “It’s a good thing and a bad thing I guess, maybe. But it is what it is. That’s the pressure of the world versus the pressure you put on yourself. Once you see what you’re thinking about you can just relax and play ball.”

It’s good on Doctson to think about helping out his younger teammates moving forward, though there appears to be plenty of pressure on him, too.

With only 81 catches over three seasons, the 2016 first-round pick hasn’t met expectations yet and besides turning down his option, the Redskins made a point to draft a wideout in the first three rounds this year.

Doctson seems to be handling the situation in stride at least and wideouts taking longer than usual to break out isn’t uncommon these days. There’s still hope, though it seems to come with plenty of pressure, even if Doctson isn’t worrying about it.
