Josh Bellamy regroups after drop that cost Bears against Titans

Josh Bellamy sat with his teammates Monday at Halas Hall and watched the video screen, painfully aware of how the horror film ended.

His drop of a potential game-winning 7-yard touchdown pass still stung. But as he endured the team review the day after the Bears' 27-21 loss to the Titans, he let the rekindled emotions wash over him.

"I'm going to be the same guy with success or without success," Bellamy said this week. "One play doesn't define you. I left that one play out there, and I'm really upset with myself about that. But I can't beat myself up. I've got to move on."

Bellamy and other Bears receivers were intent on doing that this week after they dropped 11 passes in the loss, by the Tribune's count.

Bellamy's stood out because he was open in the end zone in the final 2 minutes, and Matt Barkley's pass hit him between the numbers. Bellamy ran a terrific comeback route, juking cornerback Perrish Cox to the ground.

The Titans released Cox on Monday. So much for the victor's spoils.

Bellamy, meanwhile, returned to work with a sense of resolve. He tried to move past his breakdown Sunday night by spending time with fellow receiver Deonte Thompson, linebacker Pernell McPhee and some family members.

He also re-watched the entire game three times, which is customary for the special teams stalwart, regardless of how much he plays on offense.

Special teams coordinator Jeff Rodgers appreciated Bellamy's professionalism and forward thinking as he got back into his normal routine this week.

"Josh plays with his hair on fire," Rodgers said. "You love to see that. He's not a guy that's going to spend too much time in the tank. We're still expecting good things out of him."

Just as Bellamy is out of himself.

"Nobody is perfect," he said. "You've just got to bounce back."
