Josh Allen, Ryquell Armstead not expected to return until training camp

Jacksonville Jaguars rookie selections Josh Allen and Ryquell Armstead won’t be back until training camp from their respective injuries according to coach Doug Marrone, which means both will miss mandatory minicamp. The news comes after Josh Allen sustained a knee bruise during the first day of organized team activities and Armstead sustained a hamstring injury this week.

Both rookies are players fans are anticipating watching in person as Allen will see the field as a rotational defensive end on third downs and Armstead could find himself as the No. 2 tailback if training camp goes well for him. That said, nobody can blame Marrone and the staff for making sure that both make it to training camp at 100 percent because ultimately that’s the most important part of the preseason process.

Allen, who was widely regarded as a top-4 player in the draft, was the team’s first overall pick out of Kentucky this April. He was able to rack up 88 tackles and 17 sacks during his senior season which resulted in him being named a first-team Associated Press All-American and first-team All-SEC player.

Armstead, who was taken in the fifth-round out of Temple by the Jags, finished 2018 with 210 carries for 1,098 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns. His selection was a big deal for the simple fact that he brings a similar style to that of Leonard Fournette, which is huge because the veteran has had trouble staying on the field.
