Josh Adams pulled from Wales team minutes before kick-off

Josh Adams was a dramatic last-minute withdrawal from Wales' match against Fiji this afternoon.

Adams was due to start in the unfamiliar position of outside centre but, as the teams emerged from the tunnel, it emerged he was playing no part in the game.

Nick Tompkins was drafted in to play alongside Johnny Williams in the centre, with Willis Halaholo brought onto the bench after returning from his Covid isolation.

Adams was pictured on TV during the warm-ups but suffered a calf injury shortly before the teams went back into the dressing room.

Wales had earlier on Saturday announced Tomas Francis had also been pulled from the team after suffering a concussion in training on Friday. That injury saw WillGriff John step up to the starting XV, with Dillon Lewis coming onto the bench.
