The track I always play to rescue a dancefloor
Steve Poindexter: Computer Madness
This may be a terrible thing to admit but I actually played this twice within a long set the other day just because I wanted to dance to it again.
The track I’d play to show off my eclectic tastes
Cannonball Adderley Quintet: Phases
One of the best places to look for jazz vibes that tear up the dancefloor is breakdancing events. I heard a DJ drop this at the World B-Boy championships a few years back and I was like, ‘I’ll have some of that.’
The ideal festival track
Martyn: Twenty Four
I love Martyn. His music makes me want to turn off all the lights and close my eyes and spin around and fall in love and deep stuff like that.
The track I wish I’d never played
John Holt: You’ll Never Find
I got chucked off the decks at my own dad’s birthday party last year after playing this because all his friends wanted to hear country music instead. Toughest gig ever.
The track I’d play at my auntie’s wedding
Kassav: Zouk La Sé Sèl Médikaman Nou Ni
Following on from the aforementioned dad-gate, I’d probably stick to giving the crowd what they want. If you grew up in a St Lucian household in the 1980s, this track is pretty much etched into your soul.
The track that’s been unfairly slept on this year
Brassfoot: Black Pow Wow
Brassfoot is so sick. His music has the spirit of jungle, dancehall and techno all in one. And how many people knew that he could also spit bars?
The track that currently gets the most rewinds
Splash: Babylon
If I happen to be playing any jungle in my set, it’s almost rude not to rewind this one. That’s if some cheeky scamp from the crowd doesn’t just reach up and do it themselves.
The track I’d play at my funeral
Atmosfear: Dancing In Outer Space
I’d get a film-maker to do a sick video to accompany this. I’d be raving in space in a white tracksuit and looking happy so my family would be like, ‘Cool, she’s OK’
