French side Lorient are reportedly leading the race for Elfsborg star Joseph Okumu amid links with Rangers and Celtic.
Okumu has been linked with a move to Scotland recently with the Swedish press crediting both sides of the Glasgow divide with an interest in the 24-year-old.
It now appears the Ligue 1 side are the first to test the resolve of Elfsborg this summer ahead of the Scottish Premiership giants.
L’Équipe report that Brittany club have tabled a €2.5million offer to sign 24-year-old Kenyan centre-back.
They note that the opening offer is expected to be rejected with the Swedes hoping for a fee closer to €4million.
Fellow French top flight side Reims are also said to be keeping tabs on the situation ahead of submitting a bid.
Steven Gerrard 's side have already started their summer signing spree with Fashion Sakala and Nnamidi Ofoborh signing pre-contract deals, while Celtic have added Liam Shaw despite continuing their next boss search.
Okumu has previously expressed his desire to move on to the "next step" in his career during this transfer window.
Earlier this year he stated: “The Swedish league is a springboard for all players. If you do it well, hopefully the right opportunity arises.
“If the right option emerges, I definitely want to take the next step.
“It depends on the project. It’s not just about going to a top league or a top team. It’s all about where I can go and develop, where my playing style fits and where I can make an impression.
“I’m not just moving to move. It is important to see the bigger picture. It’s the dream all players have.”
