Josep Maria Bartomeu facing no confidence vote as 20,731 Barcelona members sign motion of censure

Josep Maria Bartomeu is facing a no confidence vote after 20,731 Barcelona members signed a motion of censure against the club president.

The Més que una Moció platform revealed on Thursday that the signatures had been collected over a two-week period and the documents will now be handed over to the club for verification.

In order to force a vote of no confidence vote, a total of 16,521 signatures were needed from members in a period of just two weeks and the target was made more difficult by the pandemic, plus the fact that 'socis' were unable to sign electronically.

The signatures will now be counted and verified by the club and if 16,521 or more of those are legitimate, the motion of censure will prosper.

That would see a no confidence vote take place and over 66 per cent of members would have to opt against Bartomeu in order for the current president and his board to be immediately removed.

If Bartomeu survives the vote, he will carry on as president until his mandate ends next year, with elections currently scheduled for March 2021.
