MIAMI _ Last month, Jose Urena received national headlines for all the wrong reasons.
After hitting Braves rookie Ronald Acuna Jr. on Aug. 15 _ setting off a benches-clearing skirmish _ the Marlins pitcher was tagged with a six-game suspension and vilified by opposing fans on social media.
Since then, he's rebounded and become one of the league's most dominant pitchers.
On Saturday night, Urena continued his hot streak, tossing 52/3 scoreless innings to help Miami top the Reds, 5-1. The 26-year-old scattered three hits and one walk while striking out two.
In his past six starts since the incident, Urena is 5-0 with a 1.85 ERA in 39 innings.
Urena exited the game with two outs in the sixth inning after having an injury scare. Marlins personnel came to the mound after he threw a pitch, but Urena stayed in the game. After giving up back-to-back singles, Marlins manager Don Mattingly elected to go to the bullpen.
Entering Saturday with the third-lowest run-support average in the majors (3.60), Urena received a nice boost from his teammates at the plate. The Marlins jumped out a 2-0 lead in the fourth, thanks to RBI base knocks from Lewis Brinson and Austin Dean.
Miami was back at it in the sixth as rookie third baseman Brian Anderson delivered an RBI single. Dean _ a fellow rookie _ provided more fireworks in the frame, belting a two-run homer to left, scoring Brinson to give the Marlins a 5-0 lead.
The Reds got on the board in the eighth with a Gabriel Guerrero solo home run off Nick Wittgren. That was the only mistake the Marlins right-hander made as he pitched two innings, giving up that one hit.
