Jose Mourinho 'wanted' by Newcastle as new owners could look to tempt Special One away from Roma

Newcastle United are considering an offer to tempt Jose Mourinho away from Roma, according to a report in Italy.

The Portuguese took over in the Eternal City in the summer having been sacked by Tottenham midway through the 2020-21 campaign.

The Special One signed a three-year contract to return to Serie A after his previous exploits with Inter, and has hit the ground running.

The Giallorossi six in fourth place after seven games, having won five and lost two, and Mourinho is already a popular figure with the fans.

According to Rome-based newspaper Il Messaggero though, the new regime at Newcastle could look to tempt him with a quickfire return to England.

The Magpies have been taken over by a Saudi consortium and, in theory at least, are now the richest club in the world.

Current manager Steve Bruce will take charge of his 1000th match as manager but it's generally accepted that he's on borrowed time.

The newspaper believes that the new regime see Mourinho as the kind of big name who could elevate the profile of Newcastle, as well as helping with the image of Saudi Arabia around the world.

For his part, Il Messaggero reports, the Roma boss has left everything in the hands of the owning Friedkin family.

Though he has close ties to England, Mourinho is said to be fully focused on preparing for Sunday's huge game against Juventus.
