Spurs boss reveals desire for Son Heung-min to sign new contract
Jose Mourinho says he would “love” Son Heung-min to sign a new long-term contract at Tottenham Hotspur, highlighting how “everybody at the club is totally in love” with the South Korean.
Son still has three years left on his current Spurs contract, but there is hope at the North London club that the 28-year-old will be tied down to a bumper deal.
“I would love that,” said Mourinho. “Son has three years of contract so it's not like we're in an extreme situation of everybody being worried. It's more that Son loves it here, I believe that he would like to commit his future to the club for a long time.
“Everybody at the club is totally in love with this player and this boy and is trying also to make him feel part of the furniture.”
Gareth Bale aims barb at Real Madrid after first Spurs start since loan return
Gareth Bale has aimed a thinly veiled jibe at Real Madrid after making his first start for Tottenham Hotspur since securing a return on loan to the North London club.
The Welsh winger fell down the pecking order at the Santiago Bernabeu under Zinedine Zidane and was ultimately exiled from the first team after becoming the subject of public derision from his own fans.
After starting in the Europa League win over LASK on Thursday, Bale underlined why he felt it was important to play for a club where he is appreciated.
“It's amazing," Bale told BT Sport after the game. “Obviously, it's a big reason why I play well and want to come back.
“You want to be loved, you want to be appreciated and obviously, I'll give everything for Spurs. When I get fully match fit, I will be up and running and hopefully contribute even more.”
Jose Mourinho decision may have ended player’s hopes of staying at Spurs
Jose Mourinho’s decision to omit Gedson Fernandes from Tottenham Hotspur's 25-man Europa League squad hints the Portuguese midfielder may not stay at the club.
UEFA regulations meant Spurs couldn’t register more than 17 foreign players in their squad for the competition and this is bad news for Fernandes who is still aiming to make his loan stay in North London from Benfica a permanent one.
“It is very difficult, to leave a player out is like to stop the player to fight for something he wants, that is always is very, very hard,” Mourinho explained. “The good thing is in January you can change, so if you have a different view you change.
“The Gazzaniga situation, with Hugo [Lloris] and Joe [Hart] we believe that for the next couple of months we can do it with an academy goalkeeper, with a young English kid.
“The problem is with the foreign players, we have some players like Ben Davies, like Matt Doherty that they are homegrown in the Premier League but not in Europe and that creates a problem. It is sad to leave people out but we have to make decisions.”
